NUTS

Nuts, I forgot a birthday recently so just had to make a card.  I used one of Karen Burniston's new dies called the Charm Accordion.  This is a fun little card and so quick to put together.  I made a simple two panel card getting two panels with just one cut.

The new Woodland Animals are so adorable, the squirrel is perfect for this card. A few leaves were added from the Tree Pop Up and a the Flower Pot Pop Up.

The inside of the Charm Accordion has a charm of course, the heart.

See you Saturday for another Saturday School,

Happy Father's Day

Before I go to see my Dad today and take his card - I thought I'd share it with you.  I used the new Karen Burniston Charm Accordion to make it.  Dad was a carpenter in his working years so I went with that theme adding some cute tool embellishments and some letters cut on my electronic die cutting machine.

Enjoy and Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there,

Saturday School Week 1

Hi my friends,

I am starting a new series that I hope will become fun and challenging.  I like to go through my local thrift shops to see what is out there that I could use for my mixed media and card making adventures.  Some time ago I picked up these cute children's items - phonics flash cards, a little book and question & answers fan deck.  They have been sitting in my stash for a long time so when I joined Tim Holtz's #hipforsummer challenge I decided to put them to use. I have made three so far and will share with you once a week.  Not all will be Hipsters but that's where I started.  My challenge to myself is to make something once a week using things that I already have but haven't used lately.

These are my thrift store items so here we go -

I used one of the phonics cards "ch", of course, is for Chimp.
He's pretty cool with his mirrored sunglasses and the attitude!   I used a little Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide on the card itself and then did a little stenciling. The chimp is stamped and then  colored with Copic Markers and finally die cut with the new Sizzix Hipster die.  I layered all the pieces together with foam tape to give it some dimension and also used the foam tape to attach it to the card.

Hope you have enjoyed-

#gethipforsummer

I thought it would be fun to join the challenge using the Hipster Stamps and Dies from Tim Holtz & Sizzix so here is my first official make.  You can read the details by clicking here.

I had lots of fun with this one as I simply think it's funny that a bird is on the head of a cat.  I was going to put "friends" but Mac suggested that I use "buds" and I like that.

Hope you have enjoyed and will join the "Hip" fun.

Paper Pros Challenge - Masculine Birthday Card

Today the Paper Pros, a fun group of crafters, is having a little challenge and we have decided on a Masculine Birthday card as the theme.

I decided to break out some of my new dies from Karen Burniston who has just released a new line in
Cahoots with Riley & Co.  I made the Twist Panel Pop-up along with parts of several other dies in the collection and, of course, had to put my "twist" on it by creating a steampunk card for our grandson.

I got creative to make this a steampunk card so here is what I did -
  • The gears are actually the tire swing from the Tree Pop-up.
  • The top hat is from the Snowman Twist Circle.
  • I added 2 charm frames and a hinge from the Charm Accordion.
  • Word Set 2 was used for the greeting, inside and on the outside.
  • Of course I needed to make it into a birthday card so used the cupcake and balloon from the Birthday Charms set.
This is such a fun card that simply explodes when opened.  I know our grandson is going to love it.  With so much fun packed on the inside of the card I needed something to keep it closed so I created a belly band that slides off.

To see the entire new line from Karen simply click here.  Once you get there, check out the instruction videos for each set.

Have a creative week,

A Trip To The Beach

Hi my friends and welcome back, I have a cute little handmade gift box to share with you today.  A few weeks ago our WOW (wild ole' women) group met at Mary's house for our monthly crafting and lunch.  We always have a good time with good friends, a good lunch and good project.  This fun box was all made from scratch with directions and supplies from Mary's stash.  After I chose my paper, I decided that it looked like bubbles so went with the ocean theme using these great dies from the Joset Designs collection from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

After completing the box construction, with lots of guidance from Mary,  Stickles was added to the folded edges giving it a great twinkle.  I used the Circles die from ECD to create the bubbles with Shimmer Sheetz.  Simmer Sheets are made of mylar and come in many great colors.  I have added links to all products used below if you want to click and shop.  The Turtle die was cut & colored and added to the front using foam tape to give dimension.  A brad was added for the eye.

This box is perfect to use as a gift box or, as I did, a diorama.  If  you are interested in the directions for the construction of the box, please email me and I will happily send you the file with written instructions.   The overall dimensions are  4.25" wide X 5.5" tall and when closed, about an inch thick.  It is held closed with ribbon.

On the inside of the box I continued with more bubbles, shells, seaweed and seahorse to finish it off.

This reminds me of a warm summer day at the shore.  Hope you have enjoyed.
Don't forget to do something that makes you happy, for me it's crafting.
