Fly---

Hi friends,

Just a fast fly by (pun intended) with a Halloween Card that was fun, fast and easy.  I love Halloween cards with there bright colors against the dark moody blacks and purples. Enjoy!

For this card I used two of  Karen Burniston's Pop it Up Dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs, an
Art Impressions stamp, Girl's Night Out, colored with Chameleon Pens.

Dies Used:
Accordion Circle Card #769
Square with Circle Frame Edges #770

Have a great week,

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge - Celebrate

Hi and welcome - today I'm back with my third project for the Karen Burniston September Designers Challenge.  These explosion boxes have been around for years and I have made many.  This one is a little different however.  Karen challenged us to use the Frame Edges from her Accordion Card Dies and I wanted to use the Oval Flourish Frame in an entirely different way so I made this!

Part of the fun of this project was seeing if I could do it.  I used all white cardstock and added a few touches of gold.   I hung the Christmas Tree Pop Stand in the center with fishing line.  If you are interested in how I made it there is a tutorial below.

Supplies Used:
All dies available at Elizabeth Craft Designs

Oval Flourish Frame Die #777
Christmas Tree Pop Stand #1037
Merry Christmas Pop Up #1039
Ring Accordion #904
ECD double sided tape
White Cardstock
Gold Ribbon
Glittery gold cardstock

Here's How I Did It!

Cut 4 sets of frames from paper that has double sided tape on the back.
Cut 4 long strips of  plastic, at least 2" longer than the frames with a little tab on top (you can use packaging)

Peel the tape lining off and stick the frames back to back with the plastic in between, leaving a tail at the bottom.  Note:  I reinforced the inside corners with an additional piece of clear plastic and a dab of strong glue.

Place them on top of each other with strong glue holding them together in the center (where the paper clips are).  When glue has dried, pinch them in the opposite direction making an X.

My box is 4" square and 6" tall.  Cut 2 - 4" X 4" squares and 4 - 6.5" X 4" panels.  Cut 1- 8" X 8" square for the lid.  Score across each of the 6" panels 1/2" from the bottom, fold and add tape to attach the long panels to the square.  Attach the side panels as shown below.
I also cut the taped the tab portion at a slight angle at the ends.

On the outside bottom, draw a line making an X from corner to corner.  Cut 4 small slits just big enough to put the plastic strips through in each corner. The slit should be just inside where the sides are attached.

From the front side (which will be the inside bottom of the box), place the strips through the slits and pull gently until the frame is sitting on the bottom square.

Fold tabs flat to the bottom of the box and secure with scotch tape then trim off excess plastic. Use the other 4" X  4"square to cover the bottom and hide the messy part.

For the Lid, score your 8" square at 2" on each side as shown in Fig.1.
Cut on the score lines shown in red - shown in Fig. 2.  Fold all score lines to form the lid, fold the flaps to the inside and secure with tape or glue.

Cut and assemble inner Christmas Tree Pop Stand - since this is not a card you can add extra dimension by gluing the 2 outer pieces together and making small cuts (where it is red, there is one on the top of the second piece) and putting the two sections together.  Hang tree in frame with fishing line.

Have fun and good luck!

Celebrate

Hi everyone,

I'm here today to share the second card I made for Karen Burniston's September Challenge, Celebrate.  She has also challenged us to use the Frame Edges, which go perfectly with the Accordion Dies, but I didn't make an Accordion Card this time.  I've used two different edges on one square card.
Hope you enjoy!

I used the Oval Flourish Frame Edges, cutting the short side 4 times, like a picture frame on the card front. For the words I used the Christmas Card Pop Up cutting away the card to leave only the shadow and doing a small amount of fussy cutting.

On the inside I used the Christmas Tree Pop Stand along with the Circle Frame Edge from the Ring Accordion around the skirt of the tree.  I already had the inside of my tree assembled when I decided to add some texture - laying it out flat - I embossed all three layers at once and it worked perfectly.

The Christmas Tree Pop Stand is one of my favorites, it's fun and easy to assemble.

After I finished my card I thought it needed something else - so I cut some little gifts & bows
from the Evergreen Pivot Card Die Set.
Really - how could you have a Christmas tree without gifts?

Supplies Used:

Christmas Tree Pop Stand Die #1037
Frame Edges: Oval Flourish #777, Ring Accordion #904
Merry Christmas Pop Up #1039
Evergreen Pivot Card #912
Elizabeth Craft Designs Double (ECD) Sided Tape
ECD embossing folder Swirly Curves (E119)
Manila, Red & Green Cardstock
Kaisercraft 12 X 12 Printed Paper

Thanks for joining me today, please stop by tomorrow for another project and tutorial.

Celebrate with Karen Burniston

I'm so excited today to not only share my first official project with the Karen Burniston Pop it Up Designer Challenge Team but to also share a brand new die set from her new Fall Release.  It will be available soon from Elizabeth Craft Designs so please request it when you visit your favorite local craft store.

This month Karen's challenge is "Celebrate", we can use any celebration we like so I chose Christmas for all three of my projects.  Please stop by tomorrow and Tuesday to see what I've come up with. As an added twist she wants us to use Frame Edges which go perfectly with the Accordion Dies.  I have used the new Flourish Gift Frame Edge today with the Gift Card Accordion.

Of course I'm sure you recognize the fun little critters in the wreaths, Chilly, Rudy and Jolly, all ready for a Christmas celebration.

Hay There

Hi all,

Hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day Holiday.  Just stopping by with a little card I found on my work table when I got home from my trip.  After nearly 3 months on the road I had forgotten that I had this card started but unfinished on the inside.

The bathtub was already on the inside but guess I just lost my inspiration and left it.
I simply added two Cheepers that I already had made, some chicken wire and a phrase that I printed on the computer and I was done. Enjoy!

Dies used:

Cheepers the chicken  #1043
Virgil the Pig #1024
Hay There #1026
Bathtub #980
All Seasons Tree (clouds) #781
Chicken Wire #1043
Beach Edges #981

Have a great week,

Have you herd??

Hi everyone and welcome -

I don't usually post two days in a row but I have some wonderful news to share with you.  I'm so excited to let you know that I am now an official member of the Pop it Ups Designer Challenge Team.  These great interactive dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs, designed by Karen Burniston are so much fun to use.  I can't wait to get started working with this amazing, crazy talented, team

To celebrate the occasion I, of course, made a card to express how happy I am.  This is an easel card where I used Cocoa the Horse on the front along with Western Edges and the Hay There die sets.

On the inside, how could I possibly have squealing going on without Virgil the Pig?

The September challenge, Celebrate, is coming up soon and I'm working on my cards so check back here on September 14th and 15th to see my take on it.  On September 16th head on over to Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog to see what everyone has made to inspire you.

No need to wait for a challenge to get inspired, Karen posts cards on her Facebook Page daily.  You will also see a list along with a link to each team members blog on the right side of my blog just under Karen's logo - so just click away.

Home Sweet Home for A Vintage Journey

Hi everyone and welcome,

We are home from our big Canadian Adventure.  We traveled many miles, 11,000 in all, and saw some pretty spectacular things.  I love to travel and see the world but as they say  "there's no place like home".  Jennie's challenge "Home Sweet Home" couldn't have fit my mood any better so I made a quick little entry in my art journal to mark the occasion.  Hope you like it.

I already had gesso on the pages so got right to work.  This project went together rather fast because I had the house cut out and stashed away.  It is from a DCWV paper pad.  I cut out the flower and word "beautiful" from the same paper pad.  All of the letters are grunge board from some packs that I purchase awhile ago.

I started out painting my pages using Distress Paint, Salty Ocean and Picked Raspberry, but found that the color was just a little intense so I went over all of it with Picket Fence.  Alone the way I had a happy accident when I forgot to wash my brush before adding the second color.  With the blue already on the brush the pink turned a bit purple, which was ok with me.

I painted all the letters with Picked Raspberry and then grunged them up a bit with some Vintage Photo.  The button was in my button jar and it was the perfect size and color so all I had to do was remove the shaft and glue it on.  Using molding paste I added a nice white cloud and some edging with one of Tim's Layering Stencils. Since I used Distress Paint and it was dry, I chose to edge the entire thing with Archival Ink, Cornflower Blue.

Please pop over to A Vintage Journey to get more inspiration from the lovely Creative Guides.
They never disappoint!

Have a crafty weekend,
