Vintage Travel & Luggage

Hi everyone, today is the start of a brand new challenge at A Vintage Journey.  I hope you will join the creative fun and post a project.  This month we are talking about Vintage Travel and Luggage and the Creative guides have made some amazing samples for you.  Hopefully you will be inspired to play along.

Mac and I are going on a big trip later this year so I made a fun little valise to store our tickets, photos and souvenirs.  The inside is filled with little pockets, tags and stamped images where we can tuck away those fond memories.

I started with a chipboard kit that I found at my local craft store from Pine Cone Press.  You will notice all kinds of Tim's goodies as well as some of my favorite Graphic 45 paper.

Below are some photos of the inside, I'm looking forward to putting this to use.

Get some ink on those fingers and make something vintage,

More fun than -----

Hi -

Today I'm working on some things for CHA and want to share one of my cards with you.   Elizabeth Craft Designs is showing their new release that will be available in January 2016.
You can see it all right here.
Karen Burniston has 2 new characters, Baker the Beaver, who I introduced to you to a few days ago, and  Jinks the Monkey.  Jinks is one of my favorites and I have made a few cards and tags with him.

This card would work great for those guys in your life as well as kids.  Everyone wants to have fun on their birthday and what is more fun than A BARREL OF MONKEYS?

This card was so much fun to make and I used several of Karen's great dies, all listed below.  There is Jinks of course, The Barrel Basket Die and the new Pull Card Edges.  No party is complete without party favors from the Props 2 set and a balloon from the Spiral Circle Pull Card - "Celebrate" comes from the Flourish Gift Frame and the streamers from the Rectangle Pull Card.

Stay tuned for more fun with Jinks and the rest of this great new collection coming to
your local craft store soon.

Have a great week,

Home for the Holidays

Hi everyone and welcome to day two of  Karen Burniston's Designer Challenge week.  I may be stretching the theme just a bit with this one but wanted to share two of Karen's new die sets that are just being rolled out today at Elizabeth Craft Designs.

One of the first things that come to mind when we think about home - is food.  During the holidays we all tend to bake and make all those goodies that remind us of home. I just couldn't resist using these two die sets that will be coming to your local stores in January 2016.

**INTRODUCING**
Baker the Beaver (#1101) and the Props 8 set (#1100)

Who wouldn't love to bake up a batch of homemade cookies with Baker?
As you can see, Baker is all decked out in his chef hat and is showing off his skills with cake and cupcakes.

I hope you will stop on over at Elisabeth Craft Designs to see all the new things that are coming your way.  Just click on the COMING SOON button and get ready to make that wish list.

Have a great and creative week,

Karen Burniston Designer Challenge Week

Hi Everyone -

Well, here it is the middle of the month and you know what that means?  Designer Challenge Week with Karen Burniston at Elizabeth Craft Designs.  This month Karen has challenged the team with the theme:  Home for the Holidays.

I live in the beautiful southwest and love that some people still call it the "Wild Wild West" so that is how I interpreted the theme.  I thought about Home on the Range for my card.

I did the floating floor so I would have plenty of room for my little desert oasis.  To see how to make the floating floor simply click on the link below for Karen's video.

Here you can see the little bunkhouse all decorated for the holiday season.  Who wouldn't feel welcome here with the lights, wreath, and tree?

All the dies and stamps I used are linked below.  Just click on each one for more details.

Creative Guide 2015 Secret Santa Reveal

Hi everyone -

Today is an exciting day for the Creative Guides over at A Vintage Journey.  It is the day we finally get to reveal who our Secret Santa is and who we made a gift for.  We drew names in October to see who we were gifting.  I got the lovely & talented Julia Aston of Create with Me.  I sent Julia the Tim Holtz Folio I made in my class with Tammy Tutterow.  You can read all about it in my post by clicking here.  Here is my gift to her:

The postman brought my gift in November from the super creative Jennie Atkinson of  Live the Dream.  I couldn't wait to open it - so I didn't.  I had a lovely early Christmas card and gift of the beautiful folio shown below.  It has lots of tags for photos,  the colors are so soft, and one of Jennies trade mark flowers.  I just love it and plan to add our holiday photos of 2015.  This way I will have a wonderful reminder of Jennie each year when I look back at this treasure.

To see all the gifts, stop on over at A Vintage Journey here.  Brenda has graciously put together a post showing all the wonderful gifts and revealing the names of all Secret Santas.
AND THERE IS A GIVE AWAY!!

Have a fabulous and fun week,

Celebrate

Happy Hanukkah to all my friends who celebrate the season-

A card to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah.   The Rectangle Accordion Die from Karen Burniston was used here.  I was a little stumped when it came to making the Menorah so looked through my dies and came up with, of all things, the moustache from the Props 1 set - also one of  Karen's designs.  I cut 9 moustaches and trimmed off the upper part from 8 of them and then used it upside down - leaving the 9th one whole for the center.  The flame is from the Candles Die from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  For the Star of David, I turned to my e-cutter.

Have a joyful week,

Vintage Christmas

Hi everyone and Happy Holidays.  Today is the start of a new challenge at A Vintage Journey and we are celebrating the season with Vintage Christmas.

In October I was lucky enough to be able to take a class with Tammy Tutterow at one of our local stores and it was a blast.  She is a wonderful teacher, sharing her tips and tricks, and a lovely person as well.  We used the Tim Holtz Folio and decorated it with so much vintage goodness.  Here is the result of the class, hope you enjoy.

As you can see the front is packed with lots of Tim's vintage pieces and has many layers.

When the folio is first opened there are two tag books that are separate pieces.

When the tag books are removed, there are three more layers to explore - all with places to add a photo or a special gift tag.

Each layer folds forward to reveal the one behind.

This was great fun to make and the class was at night so had to stay up past my bedtime but it was worth it.

Don't forget to pop over the A Vintage Journey to see what the rest of the team has made.
You can do that by clicking here.

Have a wonderful and creative weekend,

Deck the Halls

Hi All and welcome - hope you are all having a good Sunday.  It is totally beautiful here in Arizona, we have a mild sunny day.  Even though it may be lovely and sunny it is getting closer and closer to the holidays and you know what that means - TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY.

I really love using Karen Burniston's interactive dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs and her cute little characters are frequently found scampering around my cards.  Today I wanted to try something different so made them in an ornament.  I started with Jolly the Mouse and Chilly the Penguin and think Honey the Bear could be lots of fun too. I did, of course, think of Rudy the Reindeer but have to go back to the store for a bigger bulb for him.

I actually took this photo before adding the final half of the plastic bulb because it is more clear.  With the entire bulb on - there was no way to avoid the glare.  So here we have Jolly and Chilly ready for the tree.

Here they are - totally enclosed.

I found these plastic bulbs at my local craft store and they are very inexpensive.  They come apart in the center and have the loop on top for your ribbon.  I cut a circle from acetate that is the same size as the opening of the bulb.  I cut my characters, 2 each, and put one on each side of the acetate.  Don't forget to reverse them on one side.  I then put them in the bulb, added a little snow and closed them.  The final step was to add some ribbon.

Thanks  for stopping by and have a creative week,
S@ndy

Compliments of the Season --

Hi everyone and welcome to day 2 of  Designer Challenge week.  Be sure to stop by the Elizabeth Craft Designs(ECD) blog tomorrow to see everything the team has put together as well as a new video from Karen Burniston.  All you need to do is click here.

NEWS FLASH!!
To coincide with the November Designer Challenge, every purchase made over $40 of Karen Burniston's Pop It Ups will receive a FREE $10 Gift Card. You will receive your Gift Card with your order in the mail and your Gift Card can be used on the Elizabeth Craft Designs website. This offer only applies to purchases made on our website between Tuesday 17th November and Thursday 19th November.

For my second card I decided to go with the triple pivot card technique shown in Karen's video here.  Karen used the Butterfly Pivot in the video andI used the Tag Pivot for mine.  To make the Tag Pivot a triple you will need to make a couple of extra snips.  I have shown that below for you.  I have linked all dies and current stamps below so simply click on them for more details.

Here is my card with "Compliments of the Season."

I used one of my favorite stamps on the front tag for this with the plucked turkey.  I have had this stamp in my collection for ages so, sorry, can't tell you about it.  I also used a stamp from the Merry & Bright set but separated it between the two small tags.  The letters are from ECD as well.

For the front of the card I have added the All Season's Tree and leaves along with the new Basket
from the Props 7.

On the last tag which is also the back of the card when closed, I added a pumpkin that was made with three circles from the Ring Accordion Die - then inked and embossed.  For the tags and pumpkin that are colored I used the new 100# Soft Finish Card Stock from Elizabeth Craft Designs and I can't say enough good things about this paper.  It takes color so well and is so lovely to work with.  Blending colors on it is so easy.

And now as promised, here is how you can make the Tag Pivot into a triple.

OK here is where you snip.  I have added green over the cut portion of the card so it is easier for you to see.  Yours will be all the same color.  You are simply going to snip where it is attached (only on the small tags) - shown by the arrows.

Make valley and mountain folds - it should look like this.  Now decorate.

Go ahead! try it- it's fun and easy
Have a great week and don't forget to tune in tomorrow over at ECD Blog for the latest video.

It's Designer Challange Week

Yay !! - it's Designer Challenge week at Elizabeth Craft Designs with Karen Burniston.  This month she has challenged the team to use any technique from her many YouTube Videos.  It was hard to decide but I finally settled on The Grungy Gears Background Technique.  You all know how much I love gears and grungy stuff so this was for me.  Karen's videos are designed to inspire you to make something similar using the technique - but if you choose to make it exactly, that's fine too.  Here's my card for the challenge using the Clocks & Gears Set, the Spiral Pull Card, the Rectangle Pull Card and Lucky.
I have linked all dies below so you can find them easily.

I'm a fan of using what is at hand and making the best of it.  I didn't have the shelf liner that Karen used in her video so I used Aluminum Foil from the kitchen and it worked just fine.  I was also out of Black Soot Distress Paint so I used Barn Door instead and I rather like how it turned out.  In addition to the gears I used some of the numbers and clock hands and added a few of the negative circles as well.  I didn't need to alter Lucky, he's too cute just as he is.

On the inside of my card I simply wanted to add the pop up from the Rectangle Pull Card to the Spiral Pull Card and say "hello".  I cut the word "hello" and the clock face on the front from manila paper and then painted it with the same Distress Paint.

Here's a little close up so you can see the gears and clock parts.

Hope to see you tomorrow- I'll be back with my second card for the challenge,

Baby - You're A Firework

Hi and welcome to a new month and that means a new challenge at A Vintage Journey.  This time our lovely hostess, Nikki, choose the theme:  Baby, You're a Firework.  It is a tradition in some countries to have a huge firework display on many different holidays.  I would like that in the US as it seems like a simply marvelous idea.  Here is what Nikki challenged us to do: Fireworks are a big part of celebrations at this time of the year. Be inspired by them to create a Tim style project; think Distress Glitter, bold colours, ink and paint splats and fun. Go on, light up that night sky.
I decided to work in my journal again this time.  It is becoming quite thick, that makes me happy because it means I have finally ended my procrastination.  Here is how I interrupted the challenge.

I wasn't really sure where I was going when I started but ended up in a good place.   I used Tim's On The Edge Die "Townscapes" for the buildings and then colored in the windows and doors.  The fireworks are cut from glittery Fun Foam that I found at the dollar store, I used the splat from the Scribbles Die Set for that.  The white stars are molding paste using a layering stencil.  It is finished off with Holiday Words.

I started out with four pages that I had already applied gesso to.  The top two pages are torn around the edges on all sides.  Some scrapbook paper was added to the bottom two pages. Then a layer of Tissue Tape was added.  Two shades of acrylic paint on the top pages, light and dark blue.  The top pages were then glued to the bottom ones.  I splattered on some watered down gesso to the top portion.

The finishing touches were red edging and lots of Stickles!!

Don't forget to stop on over to A Vintage Journey to see what the rest of the team made - I can guarantee you will be delighted.

Have creative weekend,

Those of us who live in the Phoenix area are so lucky to still have wonderful local stores that fuel our need to look, touch and purchase scrapbooking and card making materials.  One of those is Scraps of Love in Peoria where I will be teaching a class on December 1, 2015.  I will be teaching two cards using the lovely products from Elizabeth Craft Designs and Karen Burniston.  Please contact the store for more details by clicking here.

3D Tag Friday at A Vintage Journey

Hi everyone and welcome-

Today is the 5th Friday of the month (if you're on London time) and that means TAGS at A Vintage Journey.  The team has really gone the extra mile this time with some fabulous tags.  Please stop on over by clicking here to share in the creativity and fun.

For my tag I, of course, went with Halloween.  I have a large box of extra Configuration Boxes and sometimes like to use them on a small project like this one.  I gave my tag a 3D treatment by using a chipboard tag and a Configuration Box.

You can see Tim's influence everywhere in this project.  I have been playing with my Gelli Plate and used it to make the background then added some stamping on top.

This project will be perfect for the Anything But Cute Challenge where they are asking for a Halloween theme as well as the use of the number 31.

They are having a throwback at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge so I went with  October 2013 “Spooky”.

Hope everyone has the most spooky Halloween ever and thanks for stopping by,

It's Somebunny's Birthday----

Ok my friends - today I have a fun card to share with you.  I was really wanting a bunny from Karen Burniston and she came through with flying colors.  I was delighted when this new release from Elizabeth Craft Designs included  Lucky the Bunny.  I think he is adorable and have ideas swirling around in my head on to use him.

For this card I used Lucky, he is celebrating his birthday, with the new Props 7 which includes this cute basket along with different items to place in it.  I have provided links at the bottom of the page to all the dies I used on this card.

So let's celebrate!

On the front I used the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp Set (Coming Soon) for the sentiment and those cute little bunnies around the edge.

Well - what can I say?  Lucky is so happy he's juggling carrots.  Quite a collection of gifts, party favors and balloons.

Have a Crafty Week,

Hello Autumn

Hi everyone,

I'm back today to share another card made with one of the new dies just released from Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs.  I love this time of year when the leaves turn and the air is cooler.  I am welcoming Autumn with the Props 7 die.  These baskets are so much fun to weave together and then adding the adorable little apples and the wheat from the Props 6 die just completes the feeling of fall.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see you again tomorrow when I will be sharing another card made from the dies in this great release.

See you then,
